The newly constituted Cabinet of ministers convened a meeting under the chairmanship of The Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, on Monday, August 29, 2022. During the meeting, the Cabinet of the Prime Minister held discussions on various matters of national importance
In the aftermath of the cabinet meeting, The government has agreed, in principle, to facilitate the payment of the St Kitts Electricity Company’s (SKELEC) fuel costs to enable lower energy costs for the residents of St. Kitts.
The Cabinet agreed to start the restoration and transformation project to convert the house of the nation’s first National Hero, Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw, into a museum.
The Cabinet also discussed essential measures to strengthen and enhance the world’s longest-standing citizenship-by-investment programme.
For the marijuana industry, the Cabinet has decided to take the following steps :
- Review the laws decriminalizing the possession and cultivation of specific quantities of marijuana in the country.
- To start and implement the long-anticipated Medical Marijuana Industry to create entrepreneurs and economic activity and to diversify the country’s tourism product.
- To table legislation to permit the Court to erase the criminal records of persons convicted in the past of minor marijuana-related offences.
- To instruct the Royal Saint Christopher and Nevis Police Force to respect the current cannabis-related laws and the constitutional rights declared in the May 2019 decision of the High Court in the Ras Sankofa Maccabee v the Commissioner of Police and the Attorney-General.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, will attend the inaugural Africa-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF), which will be held from September 1 to September 3, 2022, in Bridgetown, Barbados. The Forum will be themed “One People, One Destiny. Uniting and Reimagining Our Future”.
As the Minister of Health of the Cabinet of St Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Terrance Drew is also going to attend the preliminary meeting for the 30th Pan American Sanitary Conference, which will be held on September 2, 2022, in Bridgetown, Barbados.
