St Kitts and Nevis is celebrating the centenarians of the nation ahead of the official Centenarian day, commemorated on May 31. The leadership of St Kitts and Nevis have shared that it is important to make sure that the centenarians have a comfortable life.
The Governor General of St Kitts and Nevis, Dame Marcella Liburd, led a delegation to celebrate the lives of centenarians residing in the federation. The delegation also included the Deputy Governor General Hyleeta Liburd, who took the initiative to honor elders across the twin islands.
Minister of State for Ageing, Isalean Phillip and other officials from the ministry were also accompanying the Governor General of St Kitts and Nevis as well as her deputy. In St Kitts, the delegation visited the following centenarians:
- Ms Esther Harris in St. Peters
- Mr Clarence Hendrickson Williams at the Grange Facility
- Ms Angeline Revan in Sandy Point,
- Mrs Edmund Morton in Greenlands.
The visit to honor the centenarians of the federation was also taken to the sister island, Nevis. In Nevis, the Department of Ageing and Disability visited six centenarians who are currently residing on the island.
- Eliza Jeffers (105). He is the oldest person in the Federation
- Ms Leontine Clarke (101)
- Ms Frances Hicks Jeffers (101)
- Ms. Evelyn Browne (100). She is the newest Centenarian in the federation as she celebrated her 100th birthday in May 2025.
- Geraldine Simmonds Berry (100)
The Ministers of ageing on both the islands shared the images from the centenarian Day visits on their social media. The Ministers and government officials have shared that they were delighted to spend time with the elders of the federation.
The centenarian day commemorated on May 31 is an occasion to reflect on how the federation can make the elders life easy and comfortable.
The people from both the twin islands took the opportunity to congratulate the elders of the federation on the occasion of Centenarian Day. Several people took to their social media to extend theirsincerest best wishes.
