The Premier of Nevis and leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement, Mark Brantley addressed the people of Nevis in his Capacity as the newly re-elected Premier. In his address, the Premier of Nevis extended his new year greeting to the people. At the same time, he mentioned that the year offers us the opportunity to reset and recalibrate things that did work and those that didn’t. He stated that the year would give (them) the opportunity to reimagine what areas the administration can improve in.
In Premier Brantley’s opinion, 2022 was a year of success and failures, triumphs and disappointments. He acknowledged that much of this success would not have been possible without the people’s hard work and dedication. Along the same lines, Premier Mark Brantley expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the employees and volunteers. These employees and volunteers functioned under the Nevis Island Administration’s umbrella and gave commendable service in the performance of their duties.
Further, Premier Mark Brantley thanked the business community for their contribution to the development of their economy by providing job opportunities, discharging their fiscal responsibilities and “giving back to the society” as responsible citizens. Similarly, he expressed gratitude to the healthcare workers, teachers, hospitality workers, construction workers and such for keeping the island on the path of sustainable growth.
Further, Premier Mark Brantley reflected on the past year, the death of former Party Leader and Premier of Nevis, Vance Amory, contesting the federal and local assembly elections in the same year. He thanked the people of Nevis for repeatedly trusting the political party.
Following this, he talked about the execution of Culturama 48, the first in-person event hosted in Nevis following the pandemic and several other accomplishments of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) led administration, including:
- Completion of the TVET Centre at the Gingerland Secondary School
- installation of a CT Scan Machine at the Alexandra Hospital
- Swearing in of a Nevisian female Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of assembly for the first time.

Premier Brantley further discussed the opportunities presented by the new year. He expressed that the new year promises to be exciting and productive on many fronts. He emphasised increasing food production so the island could move from food security to food sovereignty.
He also committed to creating safety nets for the elderly indignant, and vulnerable population of Nevis, along with expanding the healthcare and education sector in the island.
Further, Premier Mark Brantley mentioned his intent to develop the tourism sector and bring about infrastructural development on the island. He further said that the year would be as challenging and full of difficulties; however, he expressed that he was confident in the ability of the citizens and residents to persevere in the face of any crises they may face.
