An armed robbery occurred at a gas station near the camps area, a village in Nevis. The theft happened around 9:25 PM on Friday, August 19, 2022.
Until now, investigations being run by the Police have disclosed that at around 9:25 PM on Friday, an armed person entered the gas station from the main gate of the premises and asked for money. As the assailant was armed, the gas station employee got scared and handed over all the money that the gas station register had to the armed individual.
Upon receiving the cash, the armed assailant fled the gas station on foot with a considerable amount of money. The Police have reported that no person was injured during the robbery incident.
Additionally, Police and security officials of the area have also urged the civilians to be careful and report any suspicious activity to the Police authorities of New Castle Police Station or their nearest Police Station to prevent such crimes from happening in future.
The Police are still investigating the specifics of the armed robbery, and the assailant is still being chased for. The Police have urged the people with any information about the robbery incident to come forward.
The incident has resulted in a feeling of insecurity and dread cropping up in the minds of the local population, and the people of Nevis are shocked about the development.
This is not the first case of possession of arms on the twin islands in recent times. A case of possession of arms was also reported just a day prior to this incident. The Police have arrested and charged 38-year-old Iroy Marshall, a resident of Main Street, Saddlers Village, as well as 43-year-old Samuel Maynard of Dieppe Bay for the crimes of possession of firearms and ammunition. Both the men were charged on Thursday, August 18, 2022.
On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, the Police searched a fishing vessel marked Issiah with the registration number of V4-600-DB in the Dieppe Bay area, a town in St Kitts. Marshall owned and operated the container, and Maynard was a passenger.
During the search, the Police recovered 1 AK-47 rifle with a scope with sixty-four 7.62mm rounds of ammunition along with a Taurus semi-automatic 9mm pistol with laser with one hundred and fifty-two 9mm rounds of ammunition. They both are in police custody.
