Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, appeared at the Freedom FM on January 25, 2022. He talked to the Radio Programme Host, EK Flanders, during the issues edition of the radio show. Dr Terrance Drew, who handles the responsibility for the ministry of finance, health and social security, talked about various issues during the radio talk.
The discussions revolved around issues like minimum wages, education loans, health insurance and other important topics, such as water and electricity. Expanding upon student loans, Dr Drew assured the people that the government has a plan in this regard. He clarified that they found the development bank in a mess when they formed the government.
However, Dr Drew assured the people they did not need to lose hope. According to the Prime Minister, the development bank team is led and managed by a competent board, and they have stabilized the bank. He added that the bank is getting ready to start a student loan programme.
The Prime Minister further noted that loans would help students pursue their education in any field, get the required training in their chosen field, and return to their country to aid its development. Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance also addressed the issue of minimum wages.
Exploring this issue of minimum wages, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew noted that the Ministry of Finance had created a committee. He informed the people through the radio show that they had deliberated on the issue of minimum wages during the cabinet meetings over the past few months.
He promised the people that they were contemplating the issue of minimum wages. In addition, Prime Minister Terrance Drew stated that his administration recognizes that the people have suffered due to the Covid-19 Pandemic due to the closure of Small businesses. Accordingly, Prime Minister Drew announced that they are working on strengthening the small businesses operating on the twin islands.
According to him, the government wants to give the people a real viable opportunity to make thriving careers outside the government. He reasoned that the government seeks to diversify the economy.
