Basseterre, St. Kitts – Interacting with the media persons during the first round table conference Prime Minister, Dr. Terrance Drew, has lauded the role played by the security forces and the organizers for the safe conduct of the Sugar Mas Carnival.
Sugar Mas Carnival is one of the biggest festivals which is celebrated in St. Kitts and Nevis and people from all walks of life participate in the celebrations in full force.
Every year the government remains concerned about ensuring the safety of the people during the celebrations as any untoward incident can put the safety and security of the citizens at risk during such celebrations.
The Prime Minister said that to organize an event of such a scale efficiently and safely was a commendable task that could only be undertaken by active participation of the security forces and the organizers.
The Prime Minister was in all praise for the collective efforts put in by the security forces and the organizers for the successful conduct of the Sugar Mas Carnival.
Prime Minister Drew said that the Minister responsible for Carnival, Samal Duggins, Director of Carnival Clement O’Garro, Chair of Carnival Shannon Hawley, and their respective teams worked tirelessly to plan this event and their diligent efforts resulted in successful conduct of the Sugar Mas Carnival. The Prime Minister congratulates all the dignitaries for their hard work and good planning.
The Prime Minister also praised the security forces and the frontline workers for ensuring the safety and security of the citizens during the celebrations. The Prime Minister said that it would not have been possible to organise an event as large as Sugar Mas Carnival without the active support of the security forces and the frontline workers.
Commissioner of Police James Sutton and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), as well as Acting Commander Major Kayode Sutton and the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF), found special mention in the speech of the Prime Minister, who said that ensuring the safety and well being of the citizens was of paramount importance and the two officers played a crucial role in the successful conduct of the Carnival.
The Prime Minister also appreciated the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis for cooperating with the security forces and the organisers and following all the rules and regulations during the celebrations. He said that it was imperative for the citizens to follow the guidelines so that the event could be conducted safely.
He said that the government was working to ensure the security and safety of all its citizens for which a 90 day campaign was also launched to bring down crime across the nation.
He said that the government was specially focused on promoting public health and bringing down crime while ensuring proper law and order in the nation.
He said that events such as Sugar Mas Carnival instilled a feeling of pride and unity in the hearts of all the citizens and it was the foremost duty of the government to ensure that it is conducted in a safe and secure environment.
