The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, took to his social media account to share his heartfelt condolences to the government and the people of Guyana after a deadly fire broke out at the Mahilda secondary school. The fatal fire resulted in the deaths of nineteen individuals. Meanwhile, several other people caught in the fire have sustained injuries. Accordingly, Dr Drew took the initiative to extend his most sincere sadness at the incident on behalf of his government and himself.

The Prime Minister shared a statement on Monday, May 22, 2023. In this statement, he stated that he is finding it hard to express his sadness at the disastrous fire in the female dormitory of the Mahilda secondary school. The Prime Minister took to his social media account to share his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the victims who perished in the disastrous fire in Guyana.

In his official statement, the country’s Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, stated that the void left by the 19 lives lost in the fire will ripple from immediate family and close friends to the wider community and Guyanese citizenry. He believes that the complete effects of the tragedy may never be fully understood,”

The high school girls’ dormitory fire broke out just after midnight on Monday, May 22. Further, sources have suggested that the fire engulfed the secondary school dormitory and trapped the students inside. At least 19 children passed due to the fire incident. Several students are currently critical and receiving treatment in the hospital.

While extending his prayers and condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, Dr Terrance Drew stated in his official statement on Monday, May 22 that the Government of St Kitts and Nevis offers its sincerest condolences to the families and friends of the victims and the Government and people of Guyana.

Further, Dr Terrance Drew added that his government is also praying that their families and friends would find some measure of comfort at this most difficult time”, he stated.
