Dr Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis along with his wife Diani Jimesha Prince-Drew met with Stan Shih, Founder and Chairman of ACER group for a proposal to establish hospital ships in St. Kitts.
The Prime Minister and his wife, Diani Jimesha Prince-Drew were also accompanied by Frank Laws, Special Envoy on Health, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, and other key members of the St. Kitts and Nevis delegation.
For the meeting to explore the Hospital Ships Initiative, PM Terrance Drew and his delegation met with Stan Shih, Founder and Chairman of ACER Group, and Jason Wang, Chief Operating Officer (COO), of the Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF).
The meeting, held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, focused on a comprehensive proposal to establish hospital ships in St. Kitts, that will be benefitting the OECS/CARICOM region.
The Hospital Ships initiative aims to enhance humanitarian outreach, capacity building, and strengthen international partnerships.
The meeting held for proposal of the initiative was very informative and there were some key points to be noted. The major points are as follows:
–Proposal for 2-3 Hydrogen-Fuelled Hospital Ships: These hospital ships will be providing critical healthcare services and will give support during emergency times.
–Public-Private Partnerships (PPP): This partnership involves funding from the Taiwanese Government and private investments from the island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
–Training Programmes: Collaborations with the University of West Indies to train medical professionals and support staff.
–Strategic Benefits: Enhancing the relationship between Republic of China (Taiwan), Stan Shih, and Jason Wang, while promoting regional development.
