The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew reached out to his counterparts to show his support to the islands in the Caribbean region towards which the Category 4 Hurricane Beryl is advancing.

PM Dr Drew shared updates through his social media and said that he has left White Sands prematurely to communicate with the colleague Prime Ministers Ralph Gonsalves, Dickon Mitchell, Mia Mottley and Philip J. Pierre of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Barbados and St. Lucia respectively.

He also shared his support through his Facebook post and said that he informed that St. Kitts and Nevis stands fully with St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Barbados and St. Lucia, as they brace for the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

The Hurricane Beryl and this hurricane season is predicted to set records and may be very active, which is why the federations and authorities are urging all the island nations to remain prepared.

The Prime Minister has also noted that it is the first hurricane for the 2024 season and these island nations and the Federation has seen the effects of the climate crisis and noted that Hurricane Beryl has formed, making it a rare early storm.

Currently, Beryl remains a danger, category 4 hurricane with winds at 130mph. It is about 150 miles southeast of Barbados and is advancing towards the west at 21mph. It is expected to remain a very dangerous form when it reaches the Windward Islands.

It is also to be noted that a Hurricane Warning is in force for Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, and Tobago, while a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Trinidad and Martinique.
