St. Kitts and Nevis: The Bus Associations of St. Kitts and Nevis announced the proposed fare increase due to rising operational costs after a long period of 15 years.
According to the reports, the bus associations of St. Kitts have recently shared a letter to its customers and the general public that mentioned the increasing of operational costs for passenger buses and proposing of a new fare structure.
The increase in bus fares is a proposed plan, however no official announcement regarding the date of application of increased the rates have been updated.
The fare structure has not changed in 15 years and is now being ready to be revised in order to safeguard the ongoing existence of bus services. Such a change in the fares is aimed to ensure the sustainability of Bus Services.
After expressing gratitude to the public, the letter stated about the need to update the fares. “Over the last 16 years, as omnibus operators, we have done our utmost to keep operating costs low for you, our loyal clients. We attempted to negotiate with the authorities for a few times, but there is no hearing back yet,” the letter by the Omnibus Operators mentioned.
The Omnibus operators have highlighted that the need to revise the fares is of utmost necessity.
Along with stating the increasing bus fares, the operators underscored that it is necessary to make it clear to the clients that the increase in directly connected to the costs of certain basic necessities that include-
-Petrol-Gasoline/Diesel
-Brake Pads
-Brake Shoes
-Tires
-Oils
-Oil Filters
-Cleaning/Sanitation Equipment
The new updated prices were shared within the letter and the basic fare from Basseterre to Camps is mentioned to be $3.00, whereas the fare for Basseterre to Dieppe Bay, is increased to $5.00 and other detailed prices are given in the letter.
The increase in prices of the fares has been under the light since a while now. Sucha rumour of the increase in price spread in 2022, which was made clear by the Ministry of Tourism, Transport, and Ports.
