The health promotion unit of Nevis arranged the Prostate screening for the men of St Kitts and Nevis. Prostate screening is an important part of ensuring the health of the country’s men.
The annual prostate screening took place after two years of hiatus necessitated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, after the restart of the initiative, men from St Kitts and Nevis showed up in large numbers for the screening.
In line with this, the Senator with Ministerial responsibilities, Jahnel Nisbett, took to her social media account to commend the men for reaching the screening centres.
The Nevis Ministry of Health implemented the prostate screening with the help of Jessica Scarborough and the Urology Associates team, Urologist Dr Dwayne Thawaites and his team.
She took to her social media account to publicly praise more than 700 men who were a part of the prostate screening programme. She wrote that It was a most welcomed sight on Saturday morning to witness hundreds of men on Nevis consciously decide to prioritize their health by taking advantage of the free annual prostate screening hosted in Nevis by Urology Associates.
Further, as the Minister of Health, she extended her gratitude to Jessica Scarborough and the Urology Associates team, Urologist Dr Dwayne Thawaites and his team. She also thanked the large cohort of volunteers who have remained committed to this initiative which is now in its 16th year.
She noted that following a hiatus of three years three due to Covid-19, the record-breaking 726 men who accessed the screenings also demonstrated their commitment to good health.
In an era where Non-Communicable Diseases are the leading cause of death in the St Kitts and Nevis Federation, I say kudos to our men for setting an excellent example and embodying the spirit of prevention is better than cure!
