The Nevis elections for the local assembly were held on Monday, December 12, 2022. The polls opened from 7:00 AM till 6:00 PM. Meanwhile, the counting of the votes started at 7:00 PM. After hours of rigorous counting, the results are also starting to roll out. So far, the Nevis elections officials have declared the results for four out of five electoral districts.
From the first Constituency, Concerned Citizens Movement Candidate Spencer Brand has managed to get re-elected into the Nevis Island Assembly with 631 votes to his credit. Spencer Brand had a voter turnout of 50.9%. He defeated The Nevis Reformation Party Candidate Jaedee Caines, who received 604 votes. The NRP Politiian had a voter turnout of about 48.7%
Further, per the results of the Nevis Elections, the Assembly will also have Eric Evelyn from constituency #3. He was contesting against the Nevis Reformation Party Candidate, Rohan Isles.
In electoral district 3, Eric Evelyn has managed to receive a landslide victory, having secured 736 votes over Isles’ 311 to make his way to the Nevis Island Assembly as the re-elected representative. He ensured a total voters turnout of 69.6
Constituency #4 has also chosen its assembly representative in the form of Janice Daniel-Hodge. The leader of the Nevis Reformation Party received a total of 750 votes. Her voter turnout came out to be 49.8%. She is the declared winner and the new parliamentary representative of the St James Constituency.
In contrast, Concerned Citizens Movement’s Alexis Jeffers received 742 votes, with a total voter turnout of 49.3%. Meanwhile, the MRM candidate secured 11 votes from the Constituency with a 0.7% turnout.
The final Constituency that stands declared in the Nevis elections thus far is Electoral District Five. In the St Thomas Constituency, Concerned Citizens Movement’s youngest and newest candidate. Latoya Biyanca Jones was contesting against the Nevis Reformation Party Candidate Cleone Stapleton-Simmonds.
Cleone received a total of 712 (58.4%) to overpower Latoya Jones’ 508 (41.6%) votes. The NRP candidate made her way to the Nevis Island Assembly as the representative of the St Thomas Constituency.
