Basseterre, St Kitts: Acting Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley and Cabinet Secretary Dr Marcus Natta, officially deactivated the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) after briefly assessing the reports provided to them.

This decision was made by the ministers on August 13, 2024, as the Tropical Storm Ernesto has moved away from St Kitts and Nevis, significantly reducing the threat to the island nation.

Emergency crews that are appointed to clear the roads and secure downed power lines have been working diligently ensuring the safety and accessibility of the areas that are affected.

Due to the efforts of these diligent workers, an all-clear has been issued, allowing the resumption of regular functions and operations across the Federation.

The acting Prime Minister Dr Hanley expressed deep gratitude for the collective efforts during the threat of the storm.

He stated that he wants to extend heartfelt thanks to each and every one for the role they have played during the passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto. From the emergency responders and utility workers to the residents who heeded the warnings and took the necessary precautions.

“The cooperation and resilience have been invaluable,” he further noted and also applauded the dedication of the emergency teams and the effectiveness of the coordinated response.

The nation of has once again demonstrated its strength and unity in the face of adversity. The acting PM Dr Hanley also expressed his pride of the way the nation came together as a community to ensure the safety and well-being of all.

Although the conditions have improved, residents are still urged to remain cautious when venturing outside as lingering hazards such as debris or unstable ground in certain areas still prevail.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also extended gratitude to the general public for their cooperation during this period and states that it will continue monitoring the situation and provide necessary details.
