Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris remains silent on the 50 Haitian migrants being held on St Kitts.

On October 20, 15 Haitians were taken into police custody after they turned up at the Bird Rock Beach Hotel claiming that the boat they were travelling on sank.

A police statement on October 21 said the thirteen (13) men and two (2) women and their documents were handed over to the Immigration Department.

On October 24, the police in a statement said that the Dutch Coast Guard rescued the MV Ocean King which had sent out an emergency signal on October 23 and handed the vessel over to the St. Kitts and Nevis Coast Guard which escorted the vessel to the Coast Guard base in Basseterre with thirty-five (35) persons – thirty-four (34) nationals believed to be from Haiti and one (1) believed to be from Dominica.

One juvenile, along with three pregnant Haitian women are among the group rescued at sea.

The arrival of the Haitians has raised numerous questions but to date there has been no information to the public from Prime Minister Harris, the Minister of National Security, the Ministry or the police force on what their investigations have revealed.
