The Minister of Public Utilities in the government of St Kitts and Nevis, Konris Maynard, recently visited St Kitts and Nevis Electricity Company Limited power plant to witness the testing of the new alternator installed to the 6-megawatt generator. Minister Maynard visited the power plant on Friday, April 14, 2023. He greeted the employees of the SKELEC, who were involved in testing the new alternator.
The Ministry of Public Utilities, which handles the responsibility for the SKELEC, St Kitts Water Service and Cable Limited, is dedicated to the cause of providing quality life and amenities to the country’s people. They have acquired several infrastructures for the various public utility offices. The new 6-megawatt generator is one of the country’s most recent editions of public infrastructure equipment.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Drew and the Minister of Public Utilities, infrastructure et al., Konris Maynard, are aware of the critical requirement for this particular piece of machinery. Accordingly, The government is making every effort to procure the equipment to provide safer and more affordable access to electricity to the people of St Kitts and Nevis.
During a recently staged Press interaction which Minister Konris Maynard attended with the Prime Minister and his other cabinet colleagues, he provided a detailed update about the condition of the country’s electricity infrastructure. He asserted that the generators were old and decapitated, which needed urgent replacement. He also contended that the Labour Led government of St Kitts and Nevis is already taking critical steps to address the issues.
Minister Maynard asserted that even though purchasing all new infrastructure for the SKELEC would put a tremendous strain on the nation’s finances, they have contacted the authorities and entered into various contracts with the suppliers.
Accordingly, the Minister of Public Utilities, responsible for the SKELEC, has shared that when the testing has concluded on the Power plant, St Kitts will benefit from an additional 6-megawatt of electricity being generated. Konris Maynard also extended his heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Power Plant for their continued hard work.
