St Kitts Department of Youth Empowerment has shared a post on its social media profile hyping up a former “Most remarkable teen awardee” Kailah James. She pursues a positive path in Music despite dealing with a disability.
The Ministry of Youth Empowerment launched the 25 Most Remarkable Teens Programme in 2011. Kailah James, a Washington Archibald High School student, was also a part of the first batch of deserving awardees. In 2011, Kailah was a 16-year-old student.
In the first instance of the 25 most remarkable teens, James was recognized in the area of ‘Courage to Overcome Health Conditions’. she recieved the award due to to the fact that almost four years prior, when she was 12, Kailah was diagnosed with Acute Transverse Myelitis. This is a neurological disorder caused by an inflammatory process that effects the thickening of the spinal cord.
This diagnosis meant that Kailah would have to traverse through life in a wheelchair. At the time, she is looking forward to her second year in high school. However, her optimism and courage allowed her to turn her disability into an inspiration. Her determination to get over her disability speaks to the power of the human spirit.
Presently, Kailah James is a 28-year-old woman. She is the owner of a strong spirited as she blossoms in her life and career. Additionally, She channels her energies into Music. She has performed several original pieces. She has also made arrangements for a few calypso songs. She is also a composer of instrumentals.
Kailah hopes to continue working mainly as a music producer. Additionally, she hopes to find a mentor in her chosen field by one of the local producers of St Kitts and Nevis. Recently the 28-year-old released her latest instrumentals compiled across three different volumes. The volumes are entitled “Melodies by Kailah”.
According to Kailah James, “Music helps her navigate her emotions. As a creator, she uses it to express her mood. Meanwhile, as a listener, it exposes her to new ideas and styles that she can implement in my creations.”
Recently, the Ministry of Youth Empowerment supported Kailah’s endeavours by purchasing all three of her “Melodies by Kailah” These instrumentals will be played in the office space and workshops of the department.
