The Minister of Foreign Affairs, international trade, commerce, and industry has extended congratulations to the students and teenagers who won recognition for being one of the 25 most remarkable teens. The teens were recognized as a part of a special parliamentary sitting on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.
During the special sitting, the teenagers of the federation were honoured with awards in various categories:
- Youth Activism,
- Personal Decision to Change,
- Spirit of Hope,
- Entrepreneurship
- Leadership
- Academics
- Sports
- Courage to Overcome
- Volunteerism
- Most Promising
- Performing Arts.
During the session, the Governor General of St. Kitts and Nevis, Sir W. Tapley Seaton, will be delivering an address. It also featured messages from the speaker of the house of assembly, Lanien Blanchette. Further, there was a special address from the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Social Development, Gender Affairs, Aging and Disabilities.
The director of youth empowerment, Pierre Liburd, also delivered remarks at the event.
The remarkable teens who received these awards in the special parliamentary sitting held under the directive of Dr Terrance Drew received congratulatory messages from Dr Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of sustainable development and climate change.
Dr Denzil Douglas congratulated Quinyka Bradshaw, one of the 25 Most Remarkable Teens 2022, who received her award in the category; Personal Decision To Change.
Laquandre Lowry was awarded for his contributions to Sports and Leadership.
He also congratulated Darren Thomas, a “Remarkable Teens” who was rewarded for his sportsmanship and Leadership.
Meanwhile, the Minister responsible for sustainable development and climate change, Dr Joyelle Clarke, also extended her own congratulations to the teens.
She extended her congratulations to Niran Warde and Dennidra Evelyn.
The Minister of Sustainable development also shared the life stories of the awarded teens.
Shortly after birth, Niran endured a critical medical condition. His mother was told he would never be able to walk, talk, or live an ordinary life. In time, with treatment, Niran’s condition improved.
So much so that he not only excelled academically but began to do extremely well in several sporting disciplines, including football, cricket and track and field.
He was recognized as a scholar athlete.
Dennidra Evelyn was Recognized for her “Courage to Overcome”
She is described as an advocate for students who face challenges and goes a step further to make regular referrals to school counsellors to assist if she feels her help is not enough. She has dedicated her time to researching mental illness, its effects and coping mechanisms after she lost a friend to suicide.
25 remarkable teens were recognized for their contributions to the federation of St Kitts and Nevis.
