Two athletes from St Kitts and Nevis’ Fast Twitch Track Club, Kaiem Liburd and DeCheynelle Thomas have qualified for the upcoming CARIFTA Games 2025 after delivering a wonderful performance during the Ginseng Up Classic championship, held on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025.
Kaiem Liburd participated in the 800m race as he represented Verchilds High School and managed to reach the finish line at around 2:05.83, leading to his qualification for the CARIFTA Games.
On the other hand, DeCheynelle Thomas, made his new personal Ginseng Up Classic record in in the 400m race of 55.53 seconds while he represented Basseterre High School, qualifying for the upcoming CARIFTA Games 2025 as well.
The St Kitts and Nevis Athletics Association congratulated the two Kittitian athletes on qualifying for the CARIFTA Games and for representing their respective schools in a wonderful way during the Ginseng Up Classic championship.
Ginseng Up Classic championship
The Ginseng Up Classic championship was hosted on Sunday, with seven schools participating in the tournament.
Basseterre High School won the tournament with a total medal count of 22, followed by Verchilds High School (9 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze), Charlestown Secondary School (5 gold, 10 silver, and 13 bronze), Washington Archibald High School (5 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze), Gingerland Secondary School (4 gold, 10 silver, and 7 bronze), Saddlers Secondary School (4 gold), and Cayon High School (1 bronze).
CARIFTA Games 2025
The 2025 CARIFTA Games will be held in Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago from April 19 to April 21, 2025.
More than 20 teams will be participating this year from all across the Caribbean region. The tournament will feature a total of 68 track and field events.
This annual event provides a great platform for the Caribbean athletes to showcase their skills and abilities while representing their nations.
