St Kitts and Nevis is mourning the loss of Ian Slack. He died on July 31. The members fondly remember him of the community for his immeasurable contribution. The deceased was one of St Kitts and Nevis’s most respected icons in the business sphere.
In line with this, Shamrock Netball Club shared a message paying tribute to the business and sportsman. The netball club shared this tribute in 2022. To mark the death of the remarkble sports and business man, the tribute was reshared by several people of St kitts and Nevis on their social media accounts.
Through this tribute, the well wishers of Ian Slack wish to celebrate the life, legacy and contribution of the individual to the cause of the country. He was a prominent member of the community and life of the people of the federation. Here is the tribute paid by Shamrock Netball Club to the contribution of Ian Slack.
The year 1970 is very important to the Shamrock Netball Club; it not only signifies the birth of the club, and its emergence on the national scene but also the genesis of this familial bond with Ian Slack and Coca-Cola.
The mission statement of the St. Kitts Bottling Company read in part that it wished to make an increasingly significant contribution to the building of our nation. As the General Manager and as evidenced by the scholarships and sponsorships given, product development and donations made while at the helm, Slack took this seriously.
Ian Slack was a cricketer and footballer in his youth. He was a top lawn tennis player, at one point ranking in the top four locally, and was crowned singles champion and mixed doubles champion. A multipotentiality, he went on to dominate at the bridge, emerging as OECS Bridge Champion on numerous occasions.
Mr. Slack was an avid sportsman and fan. Netball, however is a woman’s sport, and one may ask why netball? But if you know Mr Ian Slack, the family man; loyal husband; girl dad before the term was coined, you would know that he has long given his support, not only to the women in his household but to the growth and advancement of women across this country, through the causes he supports, his work with the Rotary Club of St. Kitts and right here in the Catholic Church.
As it pertains to the Shamrock Netball Club, through the sponsorship from the inception. This sponsorship was such that in one year, the Club was able to field four teams in the local tournament, Coca-Cola teams 1 and 2, Fanta and Sprite. He was resolute in his commitment to this Club
As a result of the commitment shown to the Club by Slack, even after he retired, the relationship continued as a strong foundation had been laid. The St. Kitts Bottling Company Ltd was eventually sold, BUT the relationship that was birthed and thrived during his tenure as General Manager carried on.
The Shamrock Netball Club has become synonymous with Coca Cola, and because of the longstanding relationship with our many fans and netball enthusiasts, we are simply Cokes.
As we celebrate our 2022 local league championship and fifty-two years of active participation in Netball in the Federation, we say thank you to those who have helped us along the way.
