Prominent local lawyer Chesley Hamilton is challenging Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris to come clean in relation to alleged financial arrangements with local gang members to sustain a fragile peace agreement.
Kyss 102.5 FM reported on Friday that Hamilton’s request is an echo of a call he made recently for government to stop its underhanded dealings and tell the general public, via parliament, about the framework of the agreement. Hamilton is of the view that is a “dangerous arrangement.”
In April, Hamilton in an interview confirmed rumors that gang members have been asked to sign a document signalling a truce among rival factions.
Hamilton indicated to Kyss FM that everyone is advocating for peace but he frowned on the alleged government approach- paying reputed gang members to maintain the peace.
Although Prime Minister Harris has denied the allegations of a government arrangement with gang members in exchange for peace, his denial has sparked even more questions with his remarks that the public should be celebrating the current calm in the country.
Multiple sources have spoken about suspicious “transactions” between intermediaries and the gang members and some persons have confirmed that a relative of a “high, high, government minister is secretly giving the money at a known location and the SSU provides security while the money is disbursed.”
