During the National Assembly sitting which was hosted on Friday October 31, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew shared an update on the progress of the new climate resilient general hospital. According to the Prime Minister and Minister of Health, they are close to beginning the construction of the hospital.
According to the latest updates that his ministry has shared with the general public during the National Assembly Sitting, environmental and building approvals are now in their final stages. The confirmation for this development has come from the Prime Minister during his national assembly address.
The Prime Minister assured the people of the National Assembly that the hospital is progressing at a satisfactory pace. According to the Prime Minister, the administration is in the final stages of getting all the approvals from the building board, the EIA.
He confirmed that all the approvals are either completed or near completion and the construction process for the hospital is the only thing they have to start. The Prime Minister and the Ministry have been working on the plans and proposals for the project for several months.
The Ministry of Health has been getting in touch with the various authorities to make sure all the preliminary work is completed and construction can begin. The Prime Minister recalled for the National Assembly that the hospital will be designed to withstand a level five hurricane event.
The Prime Minister said that this will help in ensuring continued provision of healthcare in the event of an emergency. The Prime Minister confirmed that the current JNF General Hospital can not withstand a hurricane of catagory 5, which is a reality that the region today has to prepare for.
This is why the construction of the hospital was extremely important. The Minister said that it is important for the country to prepare for extreme weather events as it is a reality of climate change.
