The Trans Atlantic Hurricane Season 2025 has started on June 1. The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew addressed the nation on the first day of the half year phenomenon.
The Prime Minister shared that it is his responsibility to warn the people of the nation to remain vigilant for the six months of the Hurricane Season. Starting on June 1, the Trans Atlantic Hurricane Season runs till November 30 and is marked by several winds, tropical events, storms and disturbances.
The people of the islands In the Caribbean have been dealing with this yearly occurrence marked with natural disasters storms et al, all their lives. However, becoming used to the idea of dealing with these the hurricanes should not mean the people start to take them for granted.
The National Oceanic and atmospheric Administration signals an above average projection for the hurricane season. As many as 19 named storms, 10 hurricanes out of which five may be major hurricanes reaching catagory 3, 4 and 5, have been predicted.
The authorities have shared that the previous few years have been marked by above average projections for the hurricane season due to the growing impact of climate change. Increased oceanic temperature has made the hurricane season more intense, unpredictable and destructive.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew said that the storms in the previous few years have been forming faster, causing more damage and changing paths unexpectedly. The communities, during this time experience extreme rains which pose the threat of severe flooding.
The nature, Dr Drew said, is unpredictable and thus the community has to constantly remain prepared for any situation. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew said that the hurricane seasons are becoming more and more unexpected which means the nations falling under its influence have to constantly double down on preparedness.
The government led by Dr Terrance Drew has been committed to the safety of the people of the federation. Dr Drew said that they are working with the national emergency organizations and Met Departments to remain on top of things as the hurricane season progresses.
