Basseterre, St. Kitts: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Taiwan-based Overseas Engineering and Construction Company (OECC) is hosting a Hospital Planning Session for the new climate-smart hospital at the J.N.F. General Hospital.
The planning sessions are scheduled for an entire week and would aim to ensure the delivery of an optional healthcare facility for the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis.
The first discussion began on Monday, July 22, 2024, that brought together experts on the planning board to unite the ideas and opinions of key staff regarding the new hospital.
Prime Minister Terrance Drew, also the Minister of Health, delivered opening remarks for the Hospital Planning Session. He stressed on the vision for the new climate-smart hospital and overall enhancement of healthcare delivery in both the Federation and the region.
PM Drew took his social media share the highlights from the first day of the session and stated that “Today was the first consultative activity for the construction of the new climate smart hospital was held at JNF Hospital, with leadership and other staff in attendance.”

These sessions will focus and discuss various critical departments, such as the Outpatient, Imaging, Emergency Services, Laboratory Services, Dialysis Services, Oncology Services, Radiation Therapy Services and more.
PM Dr Drew further reinforced the need for a facility that could withstand powerful hurricanes, that would be technologically smart, that would be accredited and would deliver to the people a high level of care.
“Our goal is to create a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that not only meets the current needs of our citizens but also anticipates future healthcare challenges,” added the Prime Minister.
This approach of the government and the significant investment in the hospital ensures that the new hospital will be a facility that will reflect the highest standards of patient care, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

The Ministry of Health also thanked all the participants for their invaluable contributions to this significant hospital project.
The planning session will continue throughout the week, resulting in a detailed plan for the construction and operation of the new hospital.
