Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas has welcomed the new Ambassador of Republic of China (Taiwan), Ambassador Edward Ling-Wen Tao to the island. The Ambassador will be representing one of the oldest and longest standing partners of St Kitts and Nevis in international diplomacy.
The Minister of foreign affairs held fruitful discussions with the new ambassador. They discussed the longstanding relationship that exists between St Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan.
Notably, Republic of China (Taiwan) was one of the first nations to establish diplomatic relations with St Kitts and Nevis. The country has also been a valuable asset to the twin island federation when it comes to development initiatives.
The newly appointed ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has over three decades of Diplomatic experience under his belt. He has served as an Ambassador of Taiwan to several nations during bus three decades long career in foreign services.
The ambassador has served as the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Lucia. He also worked at the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs at Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both these experiences have made the Ambassador an expert in the geography, politics and culture of the Caribbean region which will help him serve his tenure in St Kitts and Nevis.. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave the Ambassador a warm welcome when he arrived at St Kitts and Nevis.
He was received by the Senior Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Michael Penny at the Robert L Bradshaw International Airport. During the meeting, Minister Denzil Douglas reaffirmed his commitment to working with Taiwan in areas of mutual importance.
Ambassador Edward Ling-Wen Tao is succeeding Ambassador Michael Lin, who served as the resident Ambassador of Taiwan to St Kitts and Nevis for more than 7 and half years. The Ambassador has promised to work on improve cooperation between Taiwan and St Kitts and Nevis in critical areas such as education, healthcare, sustainable development and more.
