Dr Terrance Drew, on behalf of St Kitts and Nevis has endorsed the inclusion of the Republic of China (Taiwan) into international organizations. Taiwan has not been allowed the opportunity to share their views and opinions in front of the international community.
During the National Assembly Sitting for April 17, PM Drew highlighted that the nation should be given an opportunity to have their voice heard. Taiwan is not a member of any international communities.
Taiwan’s relationship with the twin Island Nation of St Kitts and Nevis has inspired the nation to present a resolution in their national assembly.
Dr Terrance Drew presented the Resolution of the National Assembly of Saint Christopher and Nevis to endorse the bid of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to participate internationally in various organisations. The Prime Minister acknowledged that Taiwan has been a long-time friend of the federation.
Between the two nations, PM Drew highlighted, there exists shared values of democracy and respect for the rule of Law. He noted that St Kitts and Nevis treasures the relationship that exists between the two nations.
He was proud to note that in the last four decades, the friendship has become even more strong. Prime Minister Drew further noted that Taiwan is a major contribution for the healthcare sector.
The nation has made several notable contributions in public health sector at international level. Taiwan has also supported St Kitts and Nevis in their efforts to recover from the COVID -19 pandemic. Taiwan’s healthcare system has earned a global reputation.
Further, the Prime Minister also acknowledged that the country has been dedicated to using renewable energy. By the year 2050, Taiwan aims to reach net zero emissions, which is a major mandate in climate action.
Taiwan is, in addition to these aforementioned projects, also willing to share mitigation and adaptation projects to climate change. The nation is also working on enhancing early warning systems for disaster preparedness.
PM Drew also highlighted how Taiwan has been actively involved in combating transnational crime. In line with this, Prime Minister Terrance Drew, called on the international community to allow Taiwan meaningful participation in international organizations so that they can directly influence decision making.
