The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew has signed a significant Heads of Terms agreement with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). The signing of the agreement was done during the fourth Afri-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF2025).
Under his agreement, the government will use up to USD 50 Million climate-linked facility for crucial infrastructural development. The funds will be utilized under the “Education Construction and Rehabilitation Climate-Linked Facility.”
The aim of the programme is to build climate resilient infrastructure in the country. The construction of this infrastructure will help the government In achieving their Sustainable Island State Agenda.
The officials have shared that the country is getting ready to build climate smart and sustainable infrastructure with a longer life. At the signing of the event, Dr Terrance Drew noted that the agreement for the funds holds more importance than the finances for the country.
The Prime Minister said that this agreement is about taking the first step towards fulfilling the vision of building a resilient St Kitts and Nevis. PM Terrance Drew highlighted that thy are laying the foundation of this vision.
The government has been dedicated to providing quality learning spaces in the country. The officials have shared hat they want to provide vital services to all the youngsters across the island.
This access will be available to every person regardless of their geographic or economic background. The partner of St Kitts and Nevis in this mandate, Heads of Terms have promised to support St Kitts and Nevis through the rest of the negotiations.
The organization has promised that they will continue to support the country as thy make arrangements for the construction to begin. This step will be done after the funds for the construction have been approved.
The Pime Minister was proud to note that the agreement is proof of the fact that the international community is showing increasing interest in doing business with St Kitts and Nevis. The country will work closely with the Afreximbank to develop the project to align with the economic and social vision of St Kitts and Nevis
