St. Kitts and Nevis government held its first press conference for 2026, to review the government initiatives which took place during the first quarter of the year. The press conference was held on Monday, 30 March 2026.
In the press conference Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew mentioned that the administration’s primary focus was on people-centered development through sustainability, global partnerships and major investments in infrastructure.
Prime Minister Drew highlighted that the administration has invested tens of millions dollars in water infrastructure to make water accessible to all the communities across the nation. This mandate of providing water security to the people of the island is being realized through initiatives such as the construction and recent commissioning of the desalination plant.
The nation is also witnessing a number of sites being tested and drilled for groundwater. All these steps will help in the development of the nation.
Further, Dr Drew also highlighted the administration’s mandate to improve transportation facilities in the twin islands. According to Dr Terrance Drew the government has invested more than $80 million dollars in ongoing road rehabilitation. Prime Minister Drew believes the road rehabilitation initiative aims to strengthen the road connectivity between both the twin islands, to improve road safety and to enhance transportation efficiency.
According to the Prime Minister, the nation is also seeing constant investments in housing construction, education facilities and infrastructure development. These developments are expected to positively improve the living standard of the communities over time. Furthermore, all these initiatives of the government are being pursued under the Sustainable Island State Agenda. The agenda focuses on national development through renewable energy, long-term resilience, and responsible resource management.
During the March 30, Press conference Dr. Terrance Drew also mentioned the success of the 50th meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government which strengthened regional unity in the Caribbean.
Dr Terrance Drew also talked about the second edition of the Afro-Caribbean Investment Summit held in Abuja, Nigeria with St. Kitts and Nevis from March 23rd to 28th 2026. The summit served as a platform for the twin islands to expand their footprints internationally. The summit resulted in the signing of an MoU, which will facilitate international film production in June 2026 through signing of a memorandum of understanding.
Dr. Terrance Drew administration even secured the funds of US$2 billion in funding and support for the Creative Sector of the country which will provide support and opportunities to the local creatives within the country.
Additionally, Drew also mentioned the bilateral meeting with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In the meeting both leaders had a deep discussion on strengthening cooperation in economic sectors such as trade, investment, education and cultural exchange. He also announced that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has planned to appoint a special envoy to St. Kitts and Nevis.
This new appointment serves a massive step in the development of relations between St. Kitts and Nevis and Nigeria.
