The controversy surrounding the Special Sustainable Zones (SSZ) Act in the country is gaining traction yet again. The former Minister in the government of ST Kitts and Nevis and social activist Dwyer Astaphan has taken to the airwaves to register his dissatisfaction with the SSZ act. The Minister has accused the government saying that Dr Terrance Drew has been involved in the decision making for the lands in Nevis.

The Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, and the Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley have both refuted these claims time and again. The Leader of the federal government, as well as the leader of the NIA have both supported the Special Sustainability Zones Act as a positive development.

Both the leaders are in agreement that the act is expected to bring significant investments and prospects for the people of the island. Furthermore the authorities have shared that the act is governed by several safeguards,

The members of the opposition have accused the government and the NIA  saying they have both failed in consulting the people on something that will be affecting them. On the other hand, fact states that the subject matter of the act provides for the safety of the people.

The act is not a means towards giving away land  of the country mindlessly to the highest bidders but will be following procedures, As is with all the laws of the country, the administration will take the decisions which benefit the people of  the country,

Contrary to the accusations of the opposition, the act is supposed to bring investment, jobs and business opportunities to the island nation. While the island nation is the smallest of its kind in the western hemisphere, it is important to note that business opportunities, FDI and job creation are all means for the economy of St Kitts and Nevis to grow and prosper.

By opposing this act, the opposition is sowing discord in the country and causing panic where none should be. The action and accusations are coming across as politically motivated and inducing panic among the people of the country.
