The Department of Marine Resources will be observing a month of activities in celebration of World Fisheries Day 2025. The month-long activities will start with the church service which will be hosted on November 2, 2025.

After the church service the department will commemorate the World Fisheries day with a number of activities spaced around the rest of the month. According to the official piece of communication from the department, the church service which will open the month of events will be hosted at the Antioch Baptist Church.

This year’s activities will be celebrated under the theme “Sustaining our Seas, Supporting our Fishers.” After the opening with the church service, the month will be dedicated to the showcase of the marine resources of the country.

Throughout this month, the restaurants will be featuring and serving dishes made out of freshly caught sea food. Every Tuesday of the month of November will be dedicated to the appreciation of the fishers of the country. Additionally, throughout the month, the people who own vessels will get free ice at the fisheries complex.

The activities will be hosted both in St Kitts and Nevis. On November 3, the department stakeholders will conduct a cooler bag promotion at the Nevis Fisheries Complex. On November 8th, the department will visit the Statia Marine Reserve with fishers coop.

On November 12, a value added products workshop will be hosted at the Basseterre Fisheries Complex at 9:00 AM. On November 14, the department will organise Nevis Coastal Cleanup & Mangrove Planting at 9:00 AM

St Kitts Coastal Cleanup will start on the same day at 6:00 AM. Next, on November 20, the department will organize a Fish Handling workshop in Nevis.

On November 21, the nation will celebrate World Fisheries Day along with an address from Minister Samal Duggins. The people of the nation will also be asked to wear blue in honor of the day.

On November 22, a Wahoo Fishing Tournament will be hosted at the Old Road Fisheries Complex. On November 25, Fisheries Storytelling will be conducted in schools across St Kitts and Nevis. Further, a fish fry day will be organised at Nevis Fisheries Complex.
