CPL 2022: Barbados Royals secured their spot in the 2022 edition of the CPL T20 cricket tournament playoffs, having secured a commanding DLS (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern) victory against the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
At the start of the match, The Warriors won the toss in the 22nd match and chose to field first.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors took the wickets of their opposition at regular intervals, making it challenging for the Royals to ascertain how they could navigate the conditions. It took a late order rally from the bats of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Jason Holder assured the Royals ended up with a reasonable total of 107/6 from an innings that was shortened to 16 overs because of the interruption of the unexpected rains.
However, the total tuned out to be more than good enough as the bowling attack of the royals gave no freebies when the Guyana Amazon Warriors came to bat. The openers came as Mujeeb and Rahkeem Cornwall, and they assured the run rate became untenable as the Royals moved towards victory.
Guyana Amazon Warriors cadre of spinners set themselves on the match, making all six wickets fall in the Barbados Royals innings. The team had limited the Royals to 62/5 when the rain delay arrived. Imran Tahir removed David Miller from the field immediately after the restart. Still, Jason Holder and Mujeeb Ur Rahman secured a partnership of 39 runs off 16 balls to give the Barbados Royals a total to defend.
Guyana needed 111 to win, which the Warriors thought to be an advantage. However, Mujeeb and Rahkeem Cornwall performed brilliantly during the first four overs to limit the Warriors to 12 runs with the loss of one wicket.
The Amazon Warriors could not get going as a disciplined Royals bowling performance from the royals raised the pressure with many dot balls. At last, what should have been a challenging game turned out to be an easy win for the Barbados Royals as they coasted to victory by 29 runs.
Guyana Amazon Warriors scored 81/9 in 16 overs and lost the match.
