3rd Annual Fish Fry & Cook-Off Competition was hosted in east Basseterre on Saturday with many people attending and participating in the competition on the behalf of their communities. The food competition featured several items starting from seafood boils to fried fish, the attendants claimed that the food was on point and the vibes of the food unmatched.
The competitors came from Saddlers and East Basseterre and delivered outstanding performances in this year’s competition. During the 3rd Annual Fish Fry & Cook-Off Competition, East Basseterre took the two top positions.
Shiniqua Elliott who is a resident of East Basseterre emerged as the winner, with a total of 134.5 points for her cooking. She received the winner’s trophy along with a cash prize of $1,000 for being the top cook in the competition.
Ruth James, who is also a resident of East Basseterre, earned 131.5 points. James was named first runner-up and awarded the runner-up trophy and a cash prize of $500.
Kimoni Smith and Ashanti Dorset, who are both recent graduates of the Saddlers Secondary School also participated in the competition. They each received $250.00 and were given special recognition for their talents. They didn’t win this time, but their courage and talent was appreciated by the judges for their good performance and talent.
In addition, each participant was presented with a medal for their participation.
All participants were once given a mystery box with identical ingredients and 90 minutes to plate one dish for 3 judges. Although the pressure was intense, they all were able to make it to the finish line and complete their dishes.
The organizers extended their gratitude to the volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who made the event a success for the people of the country to enjoy. The officers said that 2026 will be even bigger and more enjoyable for the people of the island nation.
In the last three years, the cooking competition has seen significant popularity among the people of the country.
