After being in opposition for more than 20 years, the opposition is now adopting violent means to hijack the election campaign in Commonwealth of Dominica.
United Workers Party is the party which always talk about the violence and public unrest, and they are the only people who are provoking and persuading the local public to choose the path of destruction.
This is not the first time that UWP is accused of violence in Dominica; the party is infamous in such issues from decades. The political leadership, including its leader, Lennox Linton now has chosen to provoke people to protest against government openly as in his recent statement Linton called upon people for public unrest in Dominica.
According to credible sources, UWP is worried that it will lose the upcoming general elections and they will have to remain on the opposition benches if they participate in these upcoming elections. In the result of that, the opposition is digging everywhere to win the polls whether it will affect Dominica in Tourism, Global reputation or anything.
Even the president of UWP, Senator Isaac Baptiste, said that they support the protestors. “We support the protesters as long as they do it peacefully and as long as they continue to make their demands.”
Following the erroneous attempts to hijack the election campaign, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit took it over to the local radio station, Kairi FM to address the public and light upon the issue, “What really is the reason for these protests? Why they are seeking to destroy the image and economic well being of the country,” expressed PM pointing out at UWP.
He also expressed his fears as the December and January is cruise peak season which could be affected if the protests continue as some ships will pass by due to elections.
A local resident of Dominica, Kent Charles said that the Lennox Linton’s desperation to become the Prime Minister of Dominica is destroying it already. “If Mr Linton makes up to the chair of Prime Minister, I can’t even imagine through what times Dominica will have to suffer for coming five years. They are already calling public unrest and forcing our public to hold protest against the government, without complete information,” he added.
Along with him, Jason Smith a resident of Portsmouth said that Dr Roosevelt Skerrit has made houses for people and other public amenities. Ferocious means of UWP to win the upcoming elections will never prosper as people of Dominica are not fool that they can not understand the intentions of Lennox Linton or UWP.
