Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has taken an initiative of enhancing healthcare and education for children in the twin islands. A new Pediatric Therapy Facility was launched for children across the country on Monday 15 June 2026. The opening ceremony for the Pediatric Therapy Facility was held at the CMR Building at Lime Kiln, Basseterre.
According to sources, the Pediatric Therapy Facility has been opened as a result of a partnership between The Discovery Centre, the STAR Foundation, and the government of St Kitts and Nevis. Through this collaborative initiative the twin islands federation is focusing on providing critical outpatient pediatric therapy services and supporting islands children in speech and language challenges through speech-language therapy and occupational therapy. The initiative will also provide support to the children in dealing with self development issues including sensory processing difficulties, and motor skill development.
In the opening ceremony of the Pediatric Therapy Facility initiative a ribbon cutting ceremony took place. Dr Geoffrey Hanley, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of education explained the importance of the initiative. He stated that this initiative is more than a ribbon cutting and inauguration of a building because it focuses on the twin Islands’ community development.
He mentioned that the initiative reflects the federation commitment of development of the communities and that it majorly focuses on children, caregivers and families. The programme will also provide support to children with development challenges including Autism Spectrum Disorder.
He further stated that the reason behind taking this initiative is the struggles experienced by the families for seeking healthcare and education service for their children with special needs. He said that the federation listened to those requests of the families and worked on delivering the solution and the Pediatric Therapy Facility is that meaningful solution to their long time struggles.
Additionally, in the opening ceremony the Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Sheryl Rosin,PhD, CCC-SLP, who worked more than a decade in St. Kitts and Nevis majorly in building national capacity for autism service in the Twin islands.
Moreover, the officials believe that the initiative will help in strengthening the specialised care units and provide support to families. Also it gives the twin islands children a platform to develop their abilities and improve their potential.
