The St Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Castries in collaboration with France Education International. The MoU was signed on last Thursday February 26, 2026 in the presence of Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley.
The officials have shared that before the signing of the MoU, Dr Hanley met with the Ambassador of the French Embassy, Marie-Noelle Duris. The meeting was hosted on Tuesday before the formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.
The meeting served as a platform to discuss the inclusion of the Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF) for Schools in secondary institutions. The officials have shared that the students will be able to benefit significantly from the agreement.
The signing ceremony took place in St. Kitts and led to the Minister of Education formalizing the agreement to pilot the DELF programme. The programme will be implemented in three secondary schools: Washington Archibald High School, Cayon High School, and Verchilds High School.
During the signing ceremony Marie-Noelle Duris, ambassador to the French Embassy spoke on the importance of the development. She has shared that expanding language education and formal assessment opportunities for students in St. Kitts is extremely important for the growth of the youth sector.
The leaders have shared that it is important for the people of the island to learn the language French. Further, this is a very important time for the country as they will now be able to give certification of French proficiency.
The Minister of Education has shared that this certification will help the children of St Kitts and Nevis. Who wants to study in a French-speaking country and provide this proof of proficiency in French.”
This initiative wants to give the opportunity of learning the language to the people of the island through internationally recognized certification. The Alliance Française is the officially accredited examination centre responsible for the organization and administration of the DELF Scolaire Examination in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Minister of Education has thanked the French delegation for expanding new opportunities for nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis.
