The St Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) has announced loadshedding exercise for Sandy Point, the Alley Area, Cayon and Hermitage. The affected area in Sandy Point will face power cut for four hours stating 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The power outage scheduled for the Cayon Village and Hermitage Communities is comparatively longer. This power outage will start at 9:00 AM and power will be restored around 3:00 PM.
Skelec has announced that during the power cut, the authorities will engage in load shedding for the area as a part of a scheduled maintenance drive, The authorities have shared that they are informing the public about the power outages in advance.
They also highlighted that the scheduled outages are part of the company’s mandate to maintain high standards and improve power reliability. The authorities are counting on people to support the company as they work on the maintenance and conduct load shedding.
The authorities have warned that the people should take necessary steps to protect their electrical appliances from the electrical surges before or after the scheduled outage. While the authorities have shared that the outage is expected to begin around 9:00 AM on Wednesday, the power cut can start a few minutes before or after the designated start window.
The same is true for the end of the scheduled outage as such the electricity might be restored a few minutes before or after the official window. SKELEC has further asked the people of the island to keep up with any updates by the means of the company whatsapp channels and social media pages,
The authorities have also apologised to the affected communities for any disruptions caused due to the maintenance drive.
The timings given on the notices shared by the company are subject to slight changes based keeping in mind human error. The officials have also shared contact information for their offices to ensure the people can reach the company easily.
