The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources, through the Department of Marine Resources, is organizing a three day technical training workshop. The workshop kicked-off on Tuesday July 21, 2026.
The Ministry is hosting the workshop in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The three day workshop is part of the Shrimp and Finfish Pilot Grow-Out Project (TCP/SLC/4002). This is a joint project between the Ministry and FAO.
The Department of Marine Resources shared that the workshop brings together technical experts and stakeholders. In the workshop attendees are conducting discussions on strengthening the aquaculture in the country.
Additionally, they are also engaged in reviewing the project and engaging in site selection principles, field assessments and collaborative planning approach.
The Department further mentioned that in the workshop participants will conduct on-site evaluations where they visit the proposed location for the project and share their recommendations regarding the suitability of the site which will help in successful implementation of the pilot project.
The Department also stated that organizing the three-day workshop reflects the ministry commitment of developing sustainable aquaculture in the federation. The Department said, “This initiative marks another important step in advancing sustainable aquaculture, enhancing local fish production and strengthening food security in St. Kitts and Nevis”.
Notably, the Shrimp and Finfish Pilot Grow-Out Project (TCP/SLC/4002) was implemented in the federation in June 2024. The main objective of the initiative is to develop a sustainable aquaculture industry in the St. Kitts and Nevis.
Additionally, through the project the ministry and FAO are introducing modern aquaculture techniques to increase the domestic supply of seafood and to support the blue economy in St. Kitts and Nevis for the long-term.
