The Ministry of Tourism has introduced a trial No Solicitation Zone at the Port Zante effective starting October 1, 2026. The Ministry issued a memorandum to the taxi and tour operators to share details about the trial project.

The officials have started the project with the aim of improving the experience of cruise tourists arriving on the island. As part of the trial, the Ministry urged the stakeholders to reduce unsolicited approaches in the area which falls immediately outside of the arrivals hall.

The officials have shared that the authorities will be monitoring the trial of the project and highlighted that they will be getting feedback from the stakeholders involved in the project.
The officials have shared that the focus of the project is to make sure that the tourists coming to the island have the best experience. However, the success of the trial project is also expected to hinge on the feedback provided by the other stakeholders.

The no solicitation zone would improve the destination’s overall experience for the travellers coming to their shores. However there might be some negative impacts of this exercise on the taxi and tour operators.

These stakeholders have to approach travellers to secure business from them, especially since they run small time businesses. This can be considered one of the downsides of the trial project and would need to be explored for pros and cons.

The new arrangement will need operators and vendors to adjust how they connect with potential customers. The success of the trial depends on the fact that no party involved in the tourism industry loses out on opportunities for their businesses. It will be crucial for the authorities to strike a balance between prioritising tourist experience with fair opportunity for the people engaged in providing services to the tourists.

The support of the authorities will be crucial for the growth of the small businesses operating the tourism sector.
