Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has announced that the nation is ready to provide support for the people of Venezuela in the aftermath of the two earthquakes that hit the country earlier this week. Dr Terrance Drew made the announcement during the roundtable press conference which took place on June 25.
Dr Drew confirmed that they are in talk with Venezuela and stands ready to support the country in this time of need. The nation saw a magnitude 7.2 quake strike first, this earthquake was followed 39 seconds later by an even more violent 7.5 quake.
With two back to back earthquakes, Venezuela saw the strongest seismic event to hit the country since 1900. The natural disaster has claimed the lives of more than 589 and 2,980 people have been reported injured after the incident.
In the aftermath of the natural disaster, international rescue teams have stated arriving on the ground to assist local crews searching through the rubble of collapsed buildings.
The coastal state of La Guaira has also been declared a disaster zone, with over 100 large apartment buildings and warehouses completely flattened. The earthquake is one of the most deadly event in the history of the country.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has shared that he called the leadership of Venezuela to extend his condolences. He said that he informed the government of Venezuela that St. Kitts and Nevis stand ready to help where we can help.
The Prime Minister of the country has also spoken to the country’s Ambassador to Venezuela Ambassador Dr. Norgen Wilson. He shared that the ambassador has been in touch with Venezuela and is to travel to Venezuela very, very soon.
“I think within the next week or so, he’ll be in Venezuela. And so he has been in touch with Venezuela as the ambassador, and he’s also been in touch with the Venezuelan embassy here in St. Kitts and Nevis. So there’s a robust communication between us and Venezuela at this particular time.”
The Prime Minister also added that the foreign ministry of St Kitts and Nevis is also doing its part in supporting Venezuela.
