A study conducted by the non-profit organization, Gun Violence Archive (GVA) stated that in 2019 about thirty-eight thousand people died in the United States from the use of firearms.
Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which mainly documents gun violence across the United States, revealed on Thursday that there were total 38,730 deaths caused by the usage of firearms.
The U.S., A country of 50 states, has a population of 327.2 million people, and there are between 200 million and 350 million firearms owned citizens. Nevertheless, an exact number of weapons cannot be confirmed as there is no national census, federal documentation or public health studies conducted about these weapons.
As per the statistics given by the organization, fourteen thousand nine hundred and seventy (14,970) people were victims of murder, homicides and accidental shootings. These numbers are larger than the last year’s counts of 14,789.
Furthermore, the report stated that 23,760 deaths were of suicides in 2019. However, no number of suicides using firearms were specified by GVA.
A total number of children aged between twelve to seventeen lost their lives while 2,253 were injured in 2018.
The report mentioned that in 2019, there were 409 mass shootings in the United States and thirty mass murders. Such incidents resulted in two per cent of the total firearm deaths.
Besides this, the Gun Violence Archive (GVA) report stated that Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, followed by North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New York had a higher number of such firearms incidents than other states.
