St. Kitts Health Ministry hosted a session with public servants to share the information on the newly implemented Medical Staff Plan which promises broader benefits. The engagement was held on Wednesday 25 March 2026 at the Independence Square in Basseterre.
The new plan will focus on simplifying access and improving protection for employees and their families. A Medical Staff Plan session took place at Independence Square on Wednesday. This new session marks a critical phase as it revamps the policy of the Medical Staff plan, which officially came into force on December 1, 2025.
The new introduced policy has changed the complexities of the previous policy into clarity. Now the new medical staff plan wants to bring the previous two plans into a single comprehensive Major Medical Policy. Prior to this, the civil servants had two plans that they could access, one was the Base plan and the other was the Major Medical Coverage. The improvement in the policy brings both the plans together.
The newly implemented Medical Staff Plan is designed to improve accessibility and understanding of medical entitlements. It will also simplify healthcare coverage for public officers. The programme will also expand benefits for the employees and their dependents it will expand the benefits.
According to officials, the step of improving previous policy reflects a community centric approach towards development of the public sector’s health insurance architecture. Notably, before the announcement of the improvement in policies administration also conducted some ground level research.
The Human Resource Management Department has sent their representatives on-site where they engaged directly with public servants to know about their needs. The main motive behind this was to break down the details of the plan, to ensure that no employee is left behind in their needs and address concerns.
In Wednesday’s session Ministry officials were actively interacting with attendees to clear doubt on policy’s benefits, eligibility. They took the mandate to inform them about the practical impact of the changes on their healthcare access.
On Thursday 26 March a special dedicated session was held with tailored retirees which runs till 3:00 pm. Further, on Thursday 26 March the engagement will taken specifically to the retirees who can get clarifications and have their questions answered.
