Senior Minister Dr Denzil Douglas, who serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs has shared an update about his health. The Minister had been away from public life for some months and had not been seen attending any of the events in the last few weeks.
The Minister took to his social media to share details about his absence from public life. He detailed that he has undergone a period of severe back pain from an old injury from a Motor Vehicle Accident.
The Minister shared that the pain from this injury in his spine necessitated surgical intervention and several weeks of recovery. The Minister said that the problems originate from a serious life threatening MVA in 1988. The accident led to serious injuries to the senior minister’s spine leading to surgical intervention in 2003 to the Cervical area, and now to the Lumbar-Sacral area.
The Minister has shared that after the surgical intervention, the treatment was successful. The officials have shared that it is important for the people of the island. He shared that he has received an excellent and encouraging report from Neurosurgeon Prof. Dr Anthony K Frempong-Boadu of NYU Langone Health.
The Minister shared that he has been recovering well and seeing positive signs for his recovery. He took the opportunity to talk about the advancements that he has been seeing in the delivery of Healthcare. He said, “This experience has further strengthened my appreciation for the remarkable advances in modern medicine and technology, and for the exceptional skill, professionalism, and compassion of the doctors, nurses, therapists, technicians, and all healthcare professionals whose expertise and dedicated care made this successful outcome possible.”
The Minister highlighted that his daughter, Dr Andrea F Douglas (Neurosurgeon) and her household also helped in making sure that his recovery remains smooth and comfortable.
The Minister has shared that after his recovery, he is looking forward to serving the people of the island. The Minister’s absence over the last few weeks had raised several questions in the minds of the people.
