Daren Sammy, the Head Coach of West Indies International Men’s Cricket team has expressed confidence that the Senior Men’s Cricket team will continue to maintain their three years streak of dominating games on home grounds in One Day International format. Daren shared his hopes and predictions for the upcoming bilateral series during his travel to Panama on Wednesday 27, May 2026.
He shared that the team has won the four straight home ODI series against various teams in the last three years. The team’s last loss was an ODI series against India in August, 2023.
After that they won against England with a score of 2-1 in December 2023 and again in 2024. In the same year the Indies team whitewashed the Bangladesh team with a score 3-0. Recently they defeated the Pakistan team with a score of 2-1.
According to reports, the bilateral matches against the Sri Lanka team are their first ODI matches of the year. He expressed that he feels confident enough that the team will continue its winning streak in the opening match on June 3 in Jamaica. He said, “Just from the spirit I saw in the World Cup, the camaraderie, the passion in which the guys played, the first time back in the Caribbean after the World Cup, I’m looking forward to it”.
Daren Sammy also stated West Indies team future goals including qualifying for 2027 World Cup tournament directly by performing their best. He stated the importance of the bilateral series against Sri Lanka as by winning it they get the points which help in automatic qualification. He further explained that this year West Indies are playing a total of Eight ODIs in their home ground and they aim to win all eight.
He said, “All games, especially the ODI series against Sri Lanka, are very important for us, and that means getting the points that we need to make that automatic qualification, we have eight ODIs on home soil this year, and we’re going to make all eight count”.
He mentioned that the team training camp recently started in Antigua and Barbuda and shared that the West Indies Cricket International team has already qualified for the T20 World Cup which will be held in Australia 2028.
