St. Kitts and Nevis is commemorating Month of the Older People under the theme, “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives.” The Ministry is celebrating the seniors of the country with a series of activities focused on the elderly population.

As a part of the activities, the seniors from across St. Kitts came together to march in the streets of Basseterre.

The officials have shared that the march was hosted on Friday, October 16, 2026. The senior population of the country proudly displayed placards and signs in support of the month-long commemoration of the event. The elders were said to be jovial and in high spirits throughout the march.

The officials have shared that the seniors across the country brought energy and enthusiasm to the march. The event was hosted with the aim of sending a powerful message that older persons remain valuable contributors to society.

The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities, said that the elders of the country come with a wealth of knowledge, experience and wisdom that can continue to shape the nation’s development.

The march was organised by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities. The seniors of the country started the march at Greenlands. The march ended at Independence Square

During the march, the seniors talked about the importance of recognising, respecting and celebrating the contributions of older persons. The officials have shared that the celebration for the Month of the Older People will continue for the rest of the month.

The Ministry has also confirmed that the activities are designed to promote fellowship, wellness and appreciation among the nation’s seniors.

The Ministry is getting ready to host the Seniors Fun Day on Wednesday, October 21. The month will end with a Gala Night on October 31.

This year’s Month of Older Persons calls for greater reflection on how societies can adapt to support longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives for older persons.
