Tropical Storm Eta could hit the northwestern Bahamas as a possible Category 1 hurricane or a strong tropical storm this weekend, according to meteorologists.
Chief Climatological Officer Geoffrey Greene said that while the modelling was uncertain, the storm was moving closer to the western Bahamas, including Grand Bahama, Bimini and Abaco.
Greene said that The Bahamas could expect a Category 1 hurricane or a strong tropical storm if the storm maintains its path.
Some models show the storm impacting The Bahamas, while others show the storm veering more west to the eastern Gulf Coast and South Florida.
Eta was a Category 4 storm on Tuesday but weakened to a tropical storm today.
Further weakening of Eta to a tropical depression is expected as it moves across Honduras.
However, the storm is forecasted to strengthen back to a tropical storm after it enters the northwestern Caribbean Sea on Friday.
