Trinidad and Tobago Police Service have arrested and charged a man accused of raping a 13-year-old child after receiving a tip-off via the ChildLine hotline.

According to a statement given by the TTPS, the 20-year-old Petit Valley man was arrested by the officers, and he was charged with three counts of sexual penetration of a child.

The accused would appear today before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate.

The TTPS said that the accused was arrested on Monday and charged on Tuesday by Western Division Child Protection Unit’s Cpl Davis-Guerra.

The charges stem from a tip which was received by ChildLine Trinidad and Tobago that a man was sexually assaulting a girl in the West Trinidad.

This information was passed onto the Child Protection Unit, where an investigation was launched immediately.

Cpl Davis-Guerra discovered that a 13-year-old girl was subjected to a series of sexual assaults during the months of May and July.

It was revealed by the victim during the investigation, that the suspect would come over while she was at home, and he sexually assaulted her.

The alleged offender of Petit Valley would answer to three counts of sexual penetration of a minor when he would appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate today.

The investigation was spearheaded by W/Supt (Ag) Natasha George, Sgt Aroon and ASP (Ag) Sookdeo.
