The St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) celebrated the 29th Anniversary with an Open Day which was hosted at Independence Square on Thursday, July 16, 2026. During the SKNDF open day, the forces officials welcomed members of the public to the venue. They were given an opportunity to make an interactive showcase of military life, service, and career opportunities.
The attendants of the open day had the opportunity to explore static displays of military equipment and capabilities. The general public also met and spoke with soldiers, and gained first-hand insight into the daily responsibilities and professionalism of the members of the SKNDF.
The open day was made special by the first public showcase of the SKNDF Band. During the day, musicians showcased several wind instruments and talked about the opportunities for adults interested in joining the band. The SKNDF Community Drum Corps also impressed spectators with performances that reflected the discipline, teamwork, and talent of its young members.
The Open Day also served as a recruitment drive for the St Kitts and Nevis Defence Force. The officials shared information on the many opportunities available to the people of the island within the Force:
- Community Drum Corps: Ages 10–18
- Cadet Corps: Ages 12–18
- Regular Force, Reserve Force & Coast Guard: Ages 18 and over
- SKNDF Band: Open to adults interested in learning and performing wind instruments.
The enthusiastic response from visitors underscored the strong relationship between the SKNDF and the communities it serves.
