Public Works Department Supplies Construction Materials for Saba’s Black Rocks Harbour

The Public Works Department is transporting the materials directly to the site via flat barges. Officials mentioned that the barges’ shipments will take time in late 2026 to transport all materials completely. The first shipment arrived at the Black Harbour Projects site on 27, May 2026 and Public Entity Saba also shared the information of the first shipment on their official social media page.

Jermaine Lake, the quarry manager of the Public Works Department shared that the transporting of large quantities of boulders is in ongoing process. He said, “The Process has begun for the movement of 80,000 tonnes of boulders every week over the course of the next five to six months in Saba, where they’re building a new harbour and marina”.

He further explained the reason behind taking this initiative, he stated that Saba does not have specific type of rocks they need for the project and shared that the process of transferring the material will be complete by the the end of 2026. Lake Said, “From now on until possibly the end of 2026, we will have this loaded up here, transferred to the Deep Water Harbour, then Transferred onwards to a barge and onwards to Saba”.

Notably, the Black Rocks Harbour Project is an initiative of the government of Public Entity Saba to create a primary port in the island with features of modern infrastructure which can accommodate daily ferry service, small commercial vessels, luxury yachts, dive boats, local fishing vessels and resume craft.
