The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, Nevis has welcomed 31 fresh and young educators for the 2026 Prospective Teachers Course. The opening ceremony of the training was held at Jessup’s Community Centre, Nevis on Monday 15, June 2026. The course will run for two-weeks for the aspiring teachers across the island.
The theme of the course is “Beyond the Blackboard: Reaching Every Learner”. The officials from the Ministry shared that through this course they want to focus on making foundational preparation strong for every individual before they step into a professional classroom environment.
In the opening ceremony Troy Liburd, the Minister of of Education, Sports and Youth welcomed the 31 participants and encouraged them to go through with their training with professionalism, dedication. Moreover in the course every individual will work on their foundational knowledge, skills and professional values which further help in the ground level while managing the classroom.
Liburd also addresses the participants as the island’s future and explains their duties and responsibilities towards the education sector of the island. He said, “As future educators, you have the unique responsibility of shaping minds, inspiring dreams, and helping every learner realize his or her full potential”.
In the ceremony Londa Brown, Principal Education Officer also shared her remarks on the role educators play in shaping the next generation’s mind. To support and encourage the participants several attendees from the Nevis administration were present at the opening of the ceremony, including Permanent Secretary, Zahnella Claxton and Principal Assistant Secretary, Jamir Claxton including Permanent Secretary, Kevin Barret from the Ministry of Human Resources.
Additionally, the Education Official Tamu Reid explained and shared the details of the course to the participants in the ceremony. The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth also extended their best wishes to every individual for their upcoming journey of becoming educators and mentioned that their determination to serve, inspire and lead will help in the development of the education sector of the island.
