The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities shared a Progress Report during a press conference and panel discussion on Tuesday 16, June 2026. The press conference was held at the CUNA Conference Room in Basseterre, St. Kitts. The press conference was led by Konris Maynard, the Minister Energy & Utilities, Domestic Transport, Information Communication and Technology and Post.
According to sources, in the press conference the ministry shared the details and updates on the projects that fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities. The information regarding the press conference was shared by Konris Maynard on his official social media handle. He stated that the main purpose of the Progress report is to inform the public that the government is actively working on fulfilling their commitment towards the betterment of the island.
He said, “At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief, government must improve the quality of life of the people, that is our mission whether through water, energy, roads ICT, or public services that is our mission”.
The theme of the press conference was “Building Smarter, Powering Better, Connecting Everyone” and the press conference was live streamed on several media platforms including SKNIS. In the Press conference Senior officials from the different departments and agencies which come under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities also participated.
Moreover, in the press conference the Ministry shared that their main focus for this year is water security and St. Kitts Water Services Department mentioned that they have made key investments in Basseterre Desalination Plant, groundwater development, installations of new pipelines and active efforts on enhancing water supply in St. Peter’s.
Additionally, they also mentioned updates in the energy sector including renewable energy transition along with the launch of the SOLARISE and DRIVE initiatives. St. Kitts Electricity Co. Ltd proposed a project of 50 megawatt solar PV with battery storage, grid upgrade at the quarry and shared their measures to decrease the dependence on island fossil fuels.
The Ministry also shared the updates of projects which have been successfully finished and talked about the progress of the ongoing projects within the Public Works Department St. Kitts include road rehabilitation, new road construction, the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School reconstruction project and Lime Kiln Playfield Pavilion. On the digital transformation and postal services they mentioned the improved initiatives taken in national planning, emergency response and updates on public service delivery.
Officials from the ministry stated that the progress report highlights the government and ministry’s continuous efforts of making the island stronger, improved and long-term resilience for the St. Kitts and Nevis public.
