Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew toured the Greenhouse Village at Brotherson Estate with a high level delegation in attendance. The delegation and the Prime Minister took the tour om Friday, May 22.
The greenhouse village is an important initiative for the growth of the St Kitts and Nevis Agriculture Sector. The Prime Minister was also accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture Samal Duggins.
The Prime Minister said that this is a highly ambitious protected agriculture initiative. The greenhouse village has been designed to boost the local food production of the country. The officials have shared that this will in turn also help in reducing the Federation’s food import bills.
At the same time, the greenhouse village will also create new opportunities for farmers and young people. Dr Drew took to his social media to share some images from his visit to the Brotherson Estate.
He also shared a detailed post sharing the specifics of the visit to the greenhouses. He said that this was an opportunity for him to see the progress which has been made in this matter on his social media.
Prime Minister Drew also said that Projects like these are helping to shape the future we are building under our Sustainable Island State Agenda. He called this a future where we produce more of what we consume, create more opportunities at home, and invest in long-term national development.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis was delighted to see the significant progress being made on the transformative project. The authorities believe that the project will play a vital role in strengthening national food security.
The administrative called this initiative crucial for advancing sustainable agricultural development in St Kitts and Nevis.
The delegation which was accompanying the Prime Minister of the country to this trip included; Resident Taiwanese Ambassador, Edward Ling-Wen Tao; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources, Randel Thompson; and Director of Agriculture, Stuart Versailles and Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggins
